AdventHealth team members are receiving special training and enhanced education to ensure they are providing patients and visitors an experience carried out with love and uncommon compassion. Our Chief Health Equity Officer is leading, with our clinicians, to ensure every person we serve – regardless of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status – has equal opportunities to lead a healthy life and receive equitable care.
The Community Health Needs Assessment, which surveys and assesses the state of health in Central Florida, enables us to determine what the community's greatest health needs are. Our data gathering is underway, and we'll use these findings to ensure we're providing services that bring health equity to all.
In addition to the services above, our Care Connector can direct you to resources to learn more about the following clinical and prevention services.
Transgender Care
Our clinical team works with you to determine your best course of action whether your services are performed in our facilities or with a leading, top quality partner.
Medical services include evidence-based clinical care for transgender and non-binary communities including, but not limited to, primary care, hormone therapy support, drug therapy, emergency treatment, and referral to other quality programs as deemed appropriate.
Our credentialed surgeons are trained in and can handle multiple surgical needs for the transgender community and make appropriate referrals as needed.
Behavioral Health
It's the wounds we can't see that can hurt the most. Because when we feel disconnected from our selves, it impacts everything: our health, relationships, work life, and more. AdventHealth offers treatments to help you feel like yourself again. No matter how you choose to reclaim the joy and confidence you deserve, our experienced team will be by your side with the expert care and support you need to feel healthy and whole.
If you need immediate help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 for free and confidential support, 24/7.
PrEP (Prevention Before Exposure to HIV)
PrEP is a daily HIV prevention pill and a way to reduce a person's risk of getting HIV. Taking specific PrEP medicine while you are HIV-negative can help protect you from HIV infection if you are exposed to a person with the virus. If you have a higher-than-average risk of HIV infection, PrEP could help you stay healthy. There are tests needed before you can start PrEP, regular medication schedules during treatment, and you must get tested for HIV every 3 months and for kidney problems every 6 months. Your doctor can help you stay healthy. Your Care Connector can connect you with a doctor if you need one.
PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)
PEP is the use of three drugs after a single high-risk event to stop HIV from spreading through your body, administered within two hours of exposure and no more than 72 hours after exposure. PEP must be taken for 28 days, is not a cure for HIV, and does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). No treatment is 100% effective.
